- User Instruction - Prepare area for repair by sanding the edges around the hole, approximately the size of the patch. Remove the backing from the wall patch. Apply a thin coat of joint compound to the metal side of the wall patch. Center the patch over the hole and press into place. Cover the patch and about 3'' around the patch with a thin coat of joint compound, taking care to feather the edges. Let dry and then re-apply as needed lightly sanding between coats.
